There are two ski areas open in Italy as we enter October – Passo Stelvio which has been open since May and Val Senales which opened in early September, a little later than expected after the long hot summer.
They’ll be joined from the middle of the month by Cervinia (above), with Italy’s highest ski slopes, which will open the weekends of 14-15 and 21-22 and will then open permanently for the season from 28th October.
Passo Stelvio (above after the latest fresh snow in the last week of September) closed temporarily in August due to lack of snow after the hot summer melted it away but now has one of the best base depths in the northern hemisphere at 50-150cm and there’s 12km of runs open.
Val Senales (race training pictured below last month) has only a 20cm base reported but 3km of runs open.
