Self-Catered Luxury? The Best Kept Accommodation Secret

These days, us skiers and snowboarders benefit from a huge wealth of accommodation options when booking our winter holiday. However, the amount of choice can be slightly overwhelming and it’s easy to make assumptions about what an accommodation will be like. Because of this, many people miss out on one of the best accommodation options; the luxury self-catered apartment.

It’s not uncommon to see ‘self-catered apartment’ and immediately envision boisterous students, cramped spaces and limited ‘cooking’ facilities. However, by doing so, you overlook some of the mountains’ most impressive accommodations right under your nose.

Luxury self-catered apartments are not only beautifully decorated, with fantastic facilities and impressive views, but they give you a flexibility that no catered chalet or hotel can. You can eat what you want, when you want, with no set menus or mealtimes. Feeling like a cheesy feast? Enjoy sampling the local cuisine in a cosy mountain restaurants. Exhausted from a long day’s skiing? Simply stick on some pasta, put your feet up and relax with a glass of local wine.

Cooking facilities are often on a par with what you might enjoy at home and the added extras in many apartments are a godsend after a day on the slopes. Whether it’s a swimming pool, sauna, steam room or hot tub, you can enjoy high quality hotel-style pampering on your own terms.

3 of our favourite luxury self-catering picks that tick all the boxes:

Val Cenis – Les Chalets de Flambeau

Montgenèvre – Le Napoléon

One of the world’s oldest ski resorts and the only French resort in the huge 400km Via Lattea (Milky Way) ski area. Montgenèvre benefits from snow-sure sunny slopes and the option to ski into Italy for lunch or a Bombardino – a warming winter cocktail reminiscent of egg nog! For a few après ski thrills, dare yourself to ride the Monty Express toboggan track, where you will speed down a 1400m track, slaloming through the forest, over wooden bridges and through tunnels.

Stay at Le Napoléon CGH Résidences & Spa, with a fantastic central location, in the heart of the resort right opposite the slopes.
