It’s turning in to a great early start to the season in Scotland with five of the country’s six area opening in the past week.
After the Lowther Hills Ski Club in the south of the country were first to open a week ago, Glencoe (video below) opened first in the Highlands followed by Cairngorm (pictured top) with a top-to-bottom run.
Describing conditions today, mountain ops at Cairngorm report, “No wind and pretty decent visibility. Generally good snow conditions, however there are some thin areas on the lower slopes but they are easily passable.”
Two more areas, Glenshee and The Lecht, has opened some limited terrain today, warning of (so far) thin cover.
So only Nevis Range now hasn’t opened for Winter 17/18. There the gondola is shut for annual maintenance and will reopen on the 21st of December, they say.
The extra good news is the conditions are expected to stay cold in to next week allowing for ski areas with snowmaking to keep making snow and more natural snowfall is expected too.
