Think pond skimming is only for the mountains? Think again. This Saturday (11 October), icebreaker – the New Zealand-born merino wool brand is celebrating its 30th anniversary by bringing what’s believed to be London’s very first urban pond skim to Potters Fields Park, right beneath Tower Bridge. And yes there will be tonnes of real snow.

From 12-6pm, the park transforms into Skim City, where pro skiers and riders from the UK snowsports community will show Londoners how it’s done – while the public can give it a go too.

Never tried pond skimming before? No problem. Coaches from Maison Sport will be on hand for tutorials, helping first-timers test their balance across the ice waters.

It’s completely free to watch, family friendly and guaranteed to bring an après vibe to the heart of the capital.

Besides the recycled snow, sliding perfection will be ensured by a dry slope surface provided by British suppliers of high performance year-round next gen sliding surfaces, Proslope.

Where: Potters Fields Park, SE1, 2UD

When: Saturday 11th October, 12-6pm

Get involved: Public tutorials can be booked on the day.
