Orange snow has shocked Russian ski resorts this week, as slopes resembled a scene from a science fiction movie.
The snow was mixed with sand, dust and pollen from the Sahara desert, giving it a distinctive orange tint. Mixed with storms and rain, the sand was carried through Greece before settling in Eastern Europe.
It has been suggested that this is one of the largest ever transfers of desert sand to Greece from the Sahara. Strong winds and thunderstorms whipped up the dust and it eventually came back down to earth with snowfall over Eastern Europe.
