The Finnish ski resort of Saariselkä in Northern Lapland has announced it will be opening a new toboggan run for its guests this winter, with two novelties.

Firstly, the new run will be the longest in Finland at more than a mile in length (1.8km), secondly it will feature special illuminations themed on the aurora borealis or so called ’northern lights.’

“The illumination has been done as a light art project by WhiteNight Lighting, and the project’s aim was to create aurora borealis – themed illumination,” confirmed Saariselkä’s Ida Katajamaa, who added,

“Along the ride from the top of fell Kaunispää to the bottom of the toboggan slope, there are also other light art objects that have been inspired by the mythology of the Arctic night sky.”

The illumination project was completed through the spring and summer 2018 and the newly illuminated toboggan slope will open to the public in the winter season 2018-2019.

Packaged holidays from the UK to Saariselkä are offered by Inghams.
