Woodward, the company behind the world’s original indoor freestyle sports complexes, has announced its first centre outside the USA will open in 2017, as part of a Hard Rock beach resort in Mexico.

Woodward was originally established in Pennsylvania in 1970 as an outward-bound centre but then opened its first indoor freestyle snowsports facility at Copper in Colorado in 2008 and has since opened two more centres, both in California.

Due to open in October 2017, Woodward Riviera Maya will offer the chance to snowboard and snow ski in Mexico within the new Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya.

The 1,858m2 complex will be a “shrine to lifestyle sports” the operators say and will also feature a skate and BMX park, a parkour, cheer and hip hop dance programmes and amenities, a trampoline, a Digital Media Camp and more.

Mexico has one long-established artificial-surface outdoor ski slope centre at Monterreal (monterreal.com), which uses the Dendix surface.
