New Boundaries, a brand new docu-series has launched, following the inspiring story of Marian – a 34-year-old extreme sports enthusiast, as he returns to the mountains after losing his leg in a tragic skiing accident.
Raised in the Alps as the great-grandson of one of Europe’s pioneering skiers, Marian’s life was shaped by the slopes – until an avalanche changed everything. Now, three years later, he’s learning to snowboard using his prosthetic leg, and hopes to represent Germany in the Paralympics.
The series also introduces audiences to Noah Elliot – a 27-year-old American gold-medal-holding Paralympic snowboarder, who lost his leg to cancer ten years ago – while raising his newborn daughter. Much like Marian, Noah has worked tirelessly to redefine his limits and build a sense of positivity around his disability, despite its challenges.
Both Marian and Noah are available for interview, and can talk in depth about their emotional and physical journeys over the past few years, as well as the powerful outlet that they’ve found in adaptive snowsports, which could be inspiring for your readers.
New Boundaries also highlights the growing popularity of adaptive extreme sports among disabled athletes as a wider trend. In the US, campaigns to bring skateboarding to the Paralympics are growing in momentum, while recent research cites snowsports as one of the most popular (and beneficial) types of activities among disabled teenagers – although few have the opportunity to participate.
Produced by the international prosthetics company Ottobock, you can stream New Boundaries on Youtube.
