British company, Shin Shields, has developed an affordable shin protection product for skiers and snowboarders.

Using PORON® XRD® impact technology, the Shin Shields pads slip into your ski sock.  Whatever your ability level from beginner to expert, if you have a bump then upon impact Shin Shields firm up to form a comfortable, protective shell and will absorb up to 90 percent of impact energy, minimizing injury from shin splints – a generic term used for injury in the shin-area.  This can span from slight bruising to long term injuries such as muscle tear and bone splints.

The idea to create Shin Shields was dreampt up by professional skier and Shin Shields co-founder Richard Murray who was plagued with on-going shin splint injury when skiing.  Through his podiatrist Richard Murray was introduced to XRD technology that is renowned within podiatry circles for providing leading impact protection.

Shin Shields are unique in that they use revolutionary XRD Extreme Impact Protection Technology, the company says.

XRD material is a thin, open cell foam that will keep performing, use after use.  It’s a flexible alternative to traditional, bulky padding.  It instantly reacts to impact by absorbing up to 90 percent of energy and dispersing it away from the protected area: this is how it prevents bruising and injury from shin splints.  Shin Shields are lightweight, flexible, breathable and comfortable as well as being durable, anti-microbial and washable.

They come in one size which fits all and have been designed to enhance comfort without compromising performance.
