British Ski and Snowboard is delighted to announce that His Royal Highness, The Earl of Wessex, KG, GCVO, is the new royal patron of British Ski and Snowboard, the National Governing Body for Snowsports.

The announcement of British Ski and Snowboard’s new patronage follows the most successful ever season for British Ski and Snowboard, which included 15 World Cup podiums, of which two were wins from GB Park and Pipe athletes, three World Championship podiums, three X-Games medals, Great Britain’s best ever Cross Country World Championships result and the best finish in an Alpine World Cup from a British skier in 35 years.

Last month, The Earl of Wessex attended the 2017 Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships in Tignes, France where he witnessed Great Britain’s best Alpine skiers compete against the international rising stars of the sport, and presented medals to the race winners.

Sir John Ritblat, President of British Ski and Snowboard and from the principal sponsor Delancey commented: “With the Winter Olympic Games fast approaching, this is a tremendously exciting time for British snowsports. We are delighted that His Royal Highness will be supporting the journey of our athletes to emulate the success of their summer sports compatriots at the upcoming Games and in the years to come.”

British Ski and Snowboard announced a long-term vision for British snowsports in February 2017, with the date marking one year to go until the next Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Aiming to become one of the world’s top five skiing and snowboarding nations by 2030, British Ski and Snowboard have mapped out a clear strategy to challenge for world class and Olympic medals in all skiing and snowboarding disciplines. This vision will be supported by sponsorship and fundraising from the British Snowsports Fund and British Ski and Snowboard National Foundation which were both launched in 2016.
