Details are emerging of a long-planned ski slope for Swindon which, if built, could become the UK’s seventh indoor snow centre.

The planned facility would be part of a redevelopment of the town’s existing North Star leisure  complex.  It was originally announced more than five years ago but the original contractor had financial problems and the re-development stalled, there’s now a new contractor, Seven Capital.

The £270m deal would see a centre with 15,800 square metres of indoor snow space and two indoor ski slopes, the longest 170m in length in line with the UK’s other centres, and also a 75m nursery slope.

The complex would also include a large cinema, bowling complex and hotel.

Seven Capital are reported to be applying for outline planning permission before Christmas and full permission by Easter 2018.

If built the complex would be the first new indoor snow centre to open in a decade in the UK with The Snow Centre at Hemel Hempstead the last to open in 2009.

A number of other indoor snow centre developments in the UK are currently active however including the Cool Runnings complex in Middlesborough.
