Much more that a ski resort, the Chamonix Valley is a legend! For over 250 years, visitors have been inspired by the glaciers and the dramatic mountain scenery. But the beauty of Chamonix is also in its diversity, with something for everybody, skiers and non-skiers alike.

At more than 3,840m (12,000ft), amidst Europe’s highest Alpine peaks, the Aiguille du Midi far surpasses the definition of a ski lift ! The cable cars lift you from central Chamonix up more than 2,800 vertical metres – the biggest vertical lift on earth in fact. Some take it to access the world’s longest lift-served ski run, the 22km-long Vallée Blanche, but some don’t ski at all and instead bravely Step into the Void – an amazing clear glass box sticking out more than 1,000m (3,000ft) above the nearest ground below.

2 – Much More Than A Lift Pass !

5 Reasons To Visit Chamonix Mont-Blanc
The Mont-Blanc Unlimited lift pass is one of the world’s most remarkable tickets. Not only does it provide access to a total of 900km of world-famous ski terrain throughout the Chamonix Valley and even on the other side of Mont Blanc at Italy’s Courmayeur, it also provides unlimited access to some of the world’s most remarkable locations, whether you take your skis or board with you or not. These include the Aiguille du Midi, the Mer de Glace, the new Funivie Monte Bianco (Italy), the valley’s panoramic and even resort facilities such as ice rinks, swimming pools, the mountain coaster luge ride and the Alpine Museum.

Chamonix has a long history as the Mecca of mountain sports that actually pre-dates the arrival of skiing, even if it has come to be regarded by many as the world’s best ski resort over the last century or so. But from 19 December 2015 to 17 April 2016, an outstanding exhibition of British heritage in Chamonix will be on display to visitors who want to learn more about the Valley’s history. Here you can discover talented amateur and professional 19th-century mountaineering artists’ works, on loan from the prestigious Alpine Club collection.

4 – Gastronomy Rhymes With Chamonix

From Michelin stars to Asian fusion, from Scandinavian flavours to Savoy specialities, the Chamonix Valley offers the most astonishing gastronomic choice, reflecting the diversity of a very cosmopolitan population, alongside a French flair for fine dining!

5 – Not One But Four Ski Areas

5 Reasons To Visit Chamonix Mont-Blanc
It’s no secret that the Chamonix Valley is considered a Mecca for freeriders, particularly in the Grands Montets ski area. But there’s plenty for all abilities, and Balme and Les Houches offer wonderful family skiing and fun terrain parks, while Brévent-Flégère has a variety of south-facing intermediate slopes with breathtaking panoramas. Around 90% of the Chamonix Valley’s skiing is located above 2000m, making it the perfect choice for early and late skiing.
