It’s a great April on Austrian slopes and whilst the majority of the country’s ski areas have now closed for the season, the few dozen that remain open ae reporting excellent conditions for this late in the season.

Heavy snowfall during the winter has built up bases to levels not usually seen in the Austrian Alps this far in to Spring ad there was even fresh snow last week before the sunshine returned to provide blue sky days on freshly groomed slopes, with few skiers around to crowd the slopes.

Resorts like Kitzbuhel and Lech have been posting images of beautiful conditions, the latter, with about a third of its terrain open and now approaching its seventh month of ski area operations having been the first non-glacier resort to open in the Alps back in mid-October last year.

Several resorts like Ischgl and Obertauern are building up to big closure weekends culminating on May 1st with major events.  Several glacier areas will stay open later in to May or beyond.

Some more snow is expected in the week ahead with temperatures still below freezing at night although climbing in to plus temperatures in the daytime.
