Utah’s Deer Valley ski area plans to more than double in size, adding 3,700 acres of terrain in the coming years, to become one of the five biggest in the US and six biggest in North America.
“Over the next few years, we will grow by 3,700 acres for a total of 5,726 acres of skiable terrain, providing access to the east side of Deer Valley’s Bald Mountain and more than doubling our size, making Deer Valley one of the largest ski resorts in North America,” a Deer Valley spokesperson said.
The project involves adding 16 chairlifts and 135 ski runs spread across four mountains with a new base village. It means Deer Valley will grow to have 37 chairlifts and 238 ski runs spread over 10 mountains and 5,726 acres.
Deer Valley is one of the few ski areas in the world that still bans snowboarding, and says it plans to continue to do so,
“…our unique ski-only experience, limited daily guest capacity, and legendary service all remain the same,” the spokesperson continued.
Construction of the New Village is underway and Deer Valley say that the first, “Portions of the expanded terrain will be introduced in the 2025/2026 ski season.”
Deer Valley is one of two areas next to the famous ski town of Park City, the other Park City Mountain Resort, is already regarded as the largest ski area in the USA with 7,300 acres of terrain so the development means Park City will have over 13,000 acres of lift-accessed terrain on its doorstep.
Utah is also home to Powder Mountain which claims to be the largest ski area in North America with 8464 acres of terrain, slightly more than Whistler Blackcomb. Powder Mountain only have nine lifts and a daily limit of 1,500 skiers, compared to Whistler’s 70,000 skiers per hour uplift.
