Ski holidays from the UK to a number of major European destinations will be made easier this week, thanks to recent news on the easing of travel restrictions.
You also do still currently need to take a Day 2 Antigen test on return to the UK. This rule is set to be removed soon, but there have been no specific dates set.
Austria
On Monday 24 January, the UK was removed from Austria’s virus variant list. This means that the country is now allowing test-free entry to boostered travellers.
- If you have received two vaccinations, plus a booster, you no longer need to present a negative test to enter the country. (Previously, triple jabbed were only able to enter with a negative PCR result).
- If you have received just two vaccinations, or have recovered from Covid, you can still enter the country – but you will need to present a negative PCR test in order to do so.
- Residents of Austria or another EU/EEA state who cannot provide proof of vaccination or recovery can enter Austria but must fill in a pre-travel clearance form and enter quarantine for 10 days.
Do make sure you check the validation dates for vaccines though, as Austria do have set dates for vaccine validity. The latest Covid information for Austria can be found here.
Switzerland
There is currently no requirement to take any test going into Switzerland if you are fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated in this case means two vaccines, the last one no older than 12 months ago. Travellers who are not vaccinated will need a negative PCR (not older than 72 hours) or lateral flow test (not older than 24 hours) upon entering Switzerland.
Italy
Italy has been one of the easiest destinations for UK skiers to reach for much of this winter, having only required a negative Antigen or PCR test for vaccinated arrivals.
Restrictions currently remain the same; vaccinated travellers must provide a negative PCR test taken within 48 hours before entering Italy OR a negative antigen test taken within 24 hours before entering Italy, as well as an EU PLF form. If unvaccinated, you will need to self-isolate for five days when you reach Italy, as well as provide additional test results and forms. More information can be found here.
You will need a Green Pass to access many services/areas in Italy and an NHS proof of vaccination QR Code works as an equivalent.
France
Having recently re-opened to tourism, France is now allowing vaccinated travellers in provided they meet the following restrictions:
- Present a negative PCR or antigen test result taken within 24 hours pre-departure if aged 12 years and over.
- Provide a completed ‘sworn statement’ (déclaration sur l’honneur) form self-certifying you’re not suffering from symptoms associated with coronavirus and have not been in contact with confirmed cases in the preceding fortnight.
Unvaccinated travellers must self-isolate on arrival in France for 10 days, as well as provide a negative PCR or antigen test result taken within 24 hours pre-departure, and fill out a hefty amount of paperwork.
