If you like to immerse yourself in the local culture of the destination you’re visiting, with little chance of hearing another English voice but still able to access great skiing, Alpe Cimbra is the place for you.
Alpe Cimbra Ski Area
It’s a region filled with delightful alpine villages, famous in Italy for its history, culture, and tradition. It’s a year-round leisure destination renowned for its downhill and cross country skiing in winter as well as for biking, golf, trekking, canyoning, hiking and water sports in summer.
If you’re imagining a little ski area though, think again. In winter Alpe Cimbra is host to the US Ski Team for training with a ski area that stretches to 100km of slopes as well as more than 80 km of cross-country trails. The US team say they train here ahead of the famous World Cup races in the Alps each winter events thanks to the quality of the snow and the perfect preparation of the slopes here.
The Alpe Cimbra ski area also hosted nearly 80 athletes with intellectual disabilities from England, Scotland and Wales to compete in Alpine Skiing and Figure Skating at the Special Olympics Great Britain Winter Sport in Folgaria during winter 2024.
Non-skiing Activities
When not on your skis or board there are also fabulous opportunities for everything from fat biking or snowshoeing to ski mountaineering and fans of cross country have two Nordic skiing centres with more than 80 km slopes.
The ski area is located between 1250 metres and 1850 metres altitude. There are runs suitable for all levels of skiers, backed up by a modern snow-making system, and supporting ski schools and rental shops. On the slopes you’ll find nursery slopes and children’s areas as well as dozens of mountain huts, ski bars and après ski venues.
One special activity is the Trentino Ski Sunrise when you ski at dawn on the beautiful slopes of the Alpe Cimbra after a champion’s breakfast! The first rays of sunshine on the snow create an incredible alpine landscape and then to make your start to the day even more perfect, after tasting the traditional specialties, you are the first to leave your perfect signature on the freshly groomed slopes, taking advantage of the pristine ski terrain before everyone else.
It’s not only skiing here though, but there are many other activities available on the snow here, including snowshoeing, dog sledding, fat biking, horse riding in the snow, ice-climbing, indoor ice –skating or on the Lavarone lake, tubing and much more.
Where is Alpe Cimbra?
For day trips Alpe Cimbra is just 30 minutes away from the lively cities of Trento and Rovereto or 45 minutes away from the famous Lake Garda.
Alpe Cimbra is the closest mountain destination to a main airport, located just an hour from Verona and the South Tyrol city of Bolzano, which has direct flights from Stansted. It’s located 1 hour and 45 minutes from Venice and 2 hours from Bergamo – Milan.
As you’d expect, food and wine are a true food experience here. You can taste the delicious local products in the restaurants or in the mountain huts and alpine huts, which are reachable with lifts or in the evening with snowcats.
