Crested Butte is due to open on 25 November 2026, conditions permitting. It is on the Epic Pass, which makes it easy to combine with Breckenridge, Vail or Beaver Creek on a longer Colorado trip.
The Skiing
There are around 1,500 acres and more than 3,000ft of vertical. The lower and middle mountain have friendly groomers and good beginner areas, but the reputation comes from the Extreme Limits, a huge area of steep chutes, cliffs and couloirs that has long hosted extreme freeskiing competitions. It is expert-only terrain, and it is some of the most exciting skiing in Colorado.
Off the Slopes
The town of Crested Butte is a few minutes from the ski area by free bus, and it is a joy to wander. Elk Avenue is lined with locally run restaurants, relaxed bars and independent shops, all against a backdrop of big mountain scenery. There is also excellent cross-country skiing and fat biking.
Lift Passes
Crested Butte is owned by Vail Resorts and is on the Epic Pass. It is also a good second stop on a trip to Telluride, which is a partner resort on the Epic Pass.
Getting There
Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport is about 30 miles away, with winter flights from Denver and other US hubs. By road, Denver is around four and a half hours away.
