Where To Ski or Board in North America in July 2017

There’s a lot more choice than normal for July snowsports in the USA, and you still ski for the start of the month at least in Canada too (Whistler Blackcomb’s summer skiing/boarding ends July 17th).

The heavy snowfall last winter (and the snow has continued to fall right through to June at time) means that Mammoth Mountain and Squaw Valley in California are STILL open since last autumn 2016 and both have said they’ll be staying open through July in to August.

It’s only the second time that Mammoth (pic above and below) has stayed open so long, and the first time for 27 years, whilst Squaw Valley (video below and pic top) has never stayed open in to August before.  It’s just operating on Saturdays.

The snow is still over 4m deep at Mammoth at the top of the slopes and nearly 2m deep at the base.

July is of course home to one of the big US holiday weekends – Independence Day and Mt Bachelor in Oregon says it will be re-opening for summer skiing and boarding for that long weekend only thanks to all the snow left there.

Elsewhere Timberline snowfield in Oregon, sometimes the only place to ski in North America in July and August (but not this year) is also open, as are  the summer camps at Copper Mountain in Colorado (where they use part fresh and part stockpiled snow from the winter) and at Beartooth Basin Summer Ski Area in Wyoming.
