Lindsey Vonn Says Three More Years

The world’s most successful ever female ski racer, Lindsey Vonn, says she aims to race for three more seasons, and has re-iterated her hope, first expressed several years ago, that she be allowed to race against male skiers.

The three more seasons, it not marred by injury, also seem to make it likely that Vonn, who last season overtook Annemarie Moser-Pröll of Austria’s record set in the 1970s for the most World Cup wins by a female athlete reaching 76 victories, to overtake the men’s record of 86  World Cup victories set by the famous Swedish skier Ingemar Stenmark. She is already  the most successful American ski racer in history.

In an interview Vonn said that in her final season she hoped to finally be able to race against men, and said moves were already underway to make that happen. She expressed her hope that in three years a way would have been found to make that happen.

It is not wholly unprecedented for men to downhill ski race against women, in the early years of downhill racing in the first half of the last century there are several recorded races when men and women competed in the same race.
