Families Say They’ll Defy Law To Go Skiing

A new survey has found that nearly half of parents (48%) would take their children out of school to go skiing if it was cheaper.

The survey, carried out on behalf of holiday resort operator Club Med, found that despite the threat of fines from local authorities in England, many British families believe school isn’t always the most important priority, with over 40% of parents choose skiing because it encourages them to bond as a family, and a quarter for the physical benefits.

Club Med say bookings of family ski holidays in general are up 11% this season compared to last.

“We’re finding that many British families are booking their holidays later in the season,” said Eric Chauvet, Managing Director of Club Med UK.. Across all the sales channels we have seen a rise in family bookings across March and April despite school holidays falling later this year.”

Taking children out of school is illegal in England, with fines for offences, under the 1996 Education Act.
