Following several years of improvements to slope access from the heart of Val d’Isère, with new gondolas and many other on-slope upgrades following investment of tens of millions of Euros, the famous French resort has announced its next focus will be a redevelopment of the resort itself, this time with the spend in the hundreds of millions of Euros.

Work starts this autumn on the five year re-development project that has been christened Le Coin de Val.

The 200 million Euro re-development of the heart of the village will add 900 extra beds in a host of new chalets and two hotels near the centre of the village.

Many of these, and some existing properties will be ski-in, ski-out thanks to the creation of a new piste into the resort centre and an underground moving walkway back out to the lifts.

The initial work this autumn before the ski season starts will see demolition of some public buildings on the edge of the resorts with construction work commencing in a year’s time, May 2018, with a new bus station, nursery and tourism office in the plans and due to open from the 2018-19 ski season.

“The various businesses of Le Coin de Val, among which feature several local families, will take advantage of this overall operation by enabling them to rethink their offerings and adapt to requirements and expectation of the 21st century client,” a spokesperson for the development said, “Of course they will do this without deviating from the authenticity that is loved by Val d’isère’s wider permanent population and its yearly visitors.”
