Laax

Laax is both a ski resort and a ski region. There are three villages linked by lifts in this ski area (it should be in capitals) – Flims Laax and Falera.

Flims is the largest and back before the 1990s was known as the main resort, but in more recent years the whole area has been marketed as LAAX. It is one of Switzerland’s biggest ski areas and is crowned by the Vorab glacier providing snowsure skiing. The LAAX ski area is also one of the world’s best known for freestyle skiing and snowboarding, being home to some excellent terrain parks and host of some of the world’s biggest international snowboarding competitions each winter. 70 per cent of the slopes are situated over 2,000 metres above sea level and freestyle facilities include what’s claimed to be the world’s largest superpipe.

Laax has built a reputation as one of the coolest ski areas on the planet with great freeriding from its glaciated upper slopes and no less than four terrain parks hosting big events like the Burton European Open and the BRITS freestyle festival each winter.

It’s also home to the Freestyle Academy LAAX, Europe’s first indoor freestyle hall and a playground for all ages. Spanning 1,200 square metres, the Freestyle Academy holds the highest quality training facilities for serious freestyle development as well as many less daunting options for those who may not feel comfortable hurtling into a huge airbag just yet! It’s a great place for a rainy day or for those that want to add to their adrenaline after a day on the slopes!
