Scandinavia’s leading ski area of Åre opened a new run in  its Sadeln sector this weekend.

The slope, which has a blue rating, will suit both beginners and those who like to enjoy long carving runs, a resort spokesperson said.  The area currently has predominantly blue and red slopes.

In addition the resort has invested in new snowmaking systems on the Snobbrännan slope in central Åre. The snow production system on both the east and west sides of the slope has been upgraded to a more efficient system that will operate regardless of wind direction.

Åre’s operators, SkiStar, have also announced a partnership with one of Scandinavia’s leading power companies, Fortum, to provide solar power for the next three years for three of its main lifts. The World Championship 8 lift, the Saddle Express (Sadelexpressen) and Duved’s cable car are the lifts that will be covered by renewable energy supplies.
