‘Groove CairnGorm’, which is being promoted as the UK’s first resort-based snowsports festival, gets underway today 11th March and continues tomorrow on 12 March, with snowsports and entertainment on the mountain and après-ski live music and world-class DJs in a big top in the valley – the ‘Nightclub under the Stars’.  Day and weekend tickets are still available.

Headliners for the après-ski big top down in Aviemore are the legendary hip-hop DJ Grandmaster Flash and musical tastemakers Hot Chip (DJ set).

Also appearing over the weekend are The Cuban Brothers, DJ Yoda , Glasgow synth pop act Prides, BBC Radio 1/1Xtra‘s underground electronic tastemaker DJ Monki, Eton Messy who are regarded as one of the digital leaders in pushing the latest forward thinking electronic music, Skye’s Niteworks with their fusion of electronic and traditional sounds, winner of the Scottish Alternative Music Awards “best hip-hop group” Spring Break and MG Alba ‘Up and Coming Act of the Year’ 2014 winners The Elephant Sessions.

At Cairngorm during the day there’ll be a mixture of DJ’s and acoustic acts performing on the slopes, at the park, and in the highest restaurant in the UK, The Ptarmigan.

As well as regular snowsports, the event takes place over the same weekend as the Scottish Freestyle Championships at CairnGorm, so expect to see some of the country’s top riders grabbing some big air during the day.

Snowboarding champion and BBC presenter, Tim Warwood, is urging revellers to make the most of their weekends on the slopes – by boarding the Caledonian Sleeper north to the UK’s finest slopes at CairnGorm Mountain. The overnight train service runs direct from London Euston arriving at Aviemore in good time to be first on the slopes – so you beat the airport queues and the lift queues by using the sleeper.

Warwood who started snowboarding at the age of 16, and whose drive and focus ensured he was UK champion at the age of 20, is urging guests to take advantage of late season snow conditions on Scotland’s slopes – which are currently looking good, whether coming up for Groove Cairngorm or later in the season (Cairngorm often remains open in to May).

“With regular services from the centre of London to the heart of Aviemore, snow lovers and festival goers alike can board the service on Friday night for a weekend break to the slopes and arrive back on Monday morning,” said Caledonian Sleeper’s Guest Experience Director, Ryan Flaherty.

The sleeper service is now under a new train operator who have greatly improved the quality of the service.

Standard tickets for Groove Cairngorm are priced as follows: Mountain Snowsports + Apres-ski Big Top Entertainment: 2 Day – £115 (Fri/Sat), 3 Day – £140 (Fri/Sat/Sun) or Apres-ski Entertainment Only (Fri/Sat) £65.  Shuttle Busses are operating between Inverness and Aviemore.
