Sun Peaks Upgrading T Bar to High-Speed Quad

Its only a week or so since Sun Peaks ended their 23-24 season, but the resort reports that Doppelmayr teams and lift parts have already arrived ahead of construction of the Canadian ski centre’s latest high-speed chairlift.

The new West Bowl Express will go into service next winter, increasing capacity on the route, part-served between 1992 and 2021 by a T Bar lift, from 600 to 2,000 people per hour and opening up new terrain.

Sun Peaks’ West Bowl is a zone of terrain located on Tod Mountain and is one of the famous BC resort’s highest elevation skiable areas. For the past three winters the terrain has been hike-to only.

The new quad is more than three times longer than the lift it replaces, at a mile-long compared to the 510m drag lift and will allow the creation of new trails. Regular grooming will also return to the West Bowl meaning the zone is set to offer new intermediate terrain with plenty of cruisey blue runs to enjoy.

“We are excited to re-introduce guests to this area of the resort, which features beautiful alpine views on a sunny, south facing aspect. Combined with the Crystal chairlift that opened in 2020, skiers and riders of most abilities will now have more options to enjoy up in the alpine on those gorgeous bluebird days!” a Sun Peaks spokesperson enthused.

The $12 million project brings Sun Peaks’ chairlift count to eight, in addition to its five surface lifts.
