After a challenging start of the 23-24 season the snow gods have smiled on North American ski area over the past few months, dumping an abundance of the white stuff and even throwing in that stunning eclipses for east coast skiers to enjoy last week.

As a result (of the snowfall not the eclipse), many areas now have above average spring snow depths and are keeping their slopes open longer than originally planned, some into May.

Long known as ‘North America’s Spring Skiing Capital’ as well as being one of the continent’s largest ski areas, The Palisades (pictured above and top) have extended their season to the end of May, as they often do. The snow is more than 12 feet (4 metres) deep up top and most of its terrain remains open.

Winter Park, Colorado

Currently posting America’s deepest snow both at the top of its runs (nearly 14 feet) and base (nearly 10 feet), Timberline also has the continent’s longest season, open 9-10 months from Autumn to the following summer – usually making it into August on its Palmer permanent snowfield. Right now its 100% open.

Mammoth Mountain, California

Breckenridge, Colorado
