The iconic double decker cabins of the famous Vanoise Express cable car which links Les Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry and la Plagne in the Paradiski ski area of France have had a make over.
The French designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac returned to Paradiski this winter with a new artistic creation for the Vanoise Express, following on from the success of his original concept launched in 2013. Multi-talented designer Castelbajac is popularly and critically regarded as one of the most emblematic artists of our times, famous for his designs in fashion and other projects including the Vanoise Express.
Officially opened in December 2003 to complete a long held dream to link the famous resorts and create one of the world’s largest ski areas in the process, the Vanoise Express remains one of the world’s most remarkable ski lifts. It’s double decker panoramic cabins, which unlike most cable cars can operate independent of one another, give it the highest capacity of any lift of its type. There is also no need for a central support tower as it crosses the valley in four minutes, meaning that it is one of the highest lifts in the world, at its highest point suspended 380m above the valley floor.
Paradiski is one of the largest ski areas in the world and this season will be open until 25th April 2015.
