Two Scottish Ski Centres To Have All-Weather Snowmaking This Autumn

Two of Scotland’s five Highland ski centres will be running TechnoAlpin SnowFactory units at the start of this ski season which can make snow in positive temperatures.

Both Glencoe and Cairngorm will run units leased from TechnoAlpin at the start of the ski season. SnowFactory machines make snow within a large shipping container sized unit and the snow is then sprayed out on to a slope.  Their range is limited but they have been used around the world to guarantee snow for beginner slopes and terrain parks.

Scotland had its worst snow cover season for more than two decades last winter and Glencoe had been crowd funding to raise money to buy a SnowFactory unit. They did not hit their find-raising target but have stated they plan to continue trying to raise enough money.

We are now working on a plan with TechnoAlpin to have the Snowfactory in place for late November/early December this year.

“This will be a lease with option to buy deal and will see the unit sited at the old Access Chairlift drive if we don’t manage to complete our new track in time to get it up the mountain before the snow arrives,” said a Glencoe spokesperson.

Cairngorm had initially said it wanted to add a dry slope but has now cancelled that plan and leased a SnowFactory unit.
