A musical created to celebrate some of the early 1980s ski movie has debuted at Breckenridge Backstage Theatre.
Created by Cory Wendling and Charlie Schmidt, “Totally Awesome 80s Ski Town, USA,” has been inspired by “goofball ski movies” including “Ski Patrol,” “Better Off Dead,” and “Hot Dog The Movie.”

The musical is set in a fictional “Ski Town USA” although the writers say it is based on Breckenridge, a resort they told local media they, “…both love and appreciate the so much.”
The musical tells the tale of orphan and drifter Billy Tanner who rolls up in Ski Town with a hilariously tortured past. The storyline brings in a greedy oil tycoon, house parties, ski races, Norse gods and foreign-exchange students with a soundtrack inspired by the ’80s.
“Totally Awesome 80s Ski Town, USA” runs right through March to the 31 with shows every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at 7:30pm. A special “Local’s Night” fundraiser performance has sold out.
