After a successful summer of racing, Great Britain’s Alpine skiers are looking to finish the season off on a high in the final races of the season this weekend and next week.
The Southern Hemisphere racing season started off with a bang with Charlie Guest (pictured) winning the very first Alpine race of the 2014/15 season in the Ladies Slalom at Cardrona, NZ in August. Charlie was joined on the podium by British U21 Squad athlete Rachelle Rogers who took 3rd place in the same race.
Charlie Guest, who has been training in NZ with team mates Alex Tilley and Darcie Mead, then went on to secure 3rd and 4th place finishes respectively in the FIS/ National Championship GS and SL races in Coronet Peak.
In Australia, two of the Delancey British U18 Squad athletes Zak Vinter and Fraser Middleton made fantastic starts to their FIS careers making FIS points in Mt Buller, Thredbo and Perisher.
Over in South America Jake Lismore finished 11th in the South American Cup Giant Slalom race in Cerro Catedral, Argentina. This was followed by a 9th place finish in the FIS Giant Slalom race in Cerro Catedral the next day. In the next South American Cup race in Antillanca, Chile, Nick Moynihan finished with a 9th place in the Men’s Slalom.
This weekend sees a number of the British team competing in the final technical races in the South American Cup, with GS and Slalom races in El Colorado and La Parva (Chile). The South American Cup then concludes next week with speed races in La Parva.
Over the next week we will also see the conclusion of racing in New Zealand. This weekend in Treble Cone, Charlie Guest, Alex Tilley, Darcie Mead and Rachelle Rogers compete in the ladies FIS technical races and for the men Laurie Taylor is the sole GB representative. Then next week it is the last of the Australia New Zealand Cup (ANC) technical races in Coronet Peak.
Olympian Dave Ryding has had a successful summer training in Saas Fee. He was joined in August by fellow Delancey British Senior team mate Jai Geyer for two weeks training at the Wittenburg Indoor Snow Hall in Germany.
