It has been two months now of heavy snowfall in Western North America and so far there’s no sign of it stopping.
Mammoth Mountain (below) keeps getting snowfall adding up to metres in just days, over and over again, and after another 50cm fell in the 24 hours to Thursday 19th said its base had reached 6.9m (23 feet) at the top, by far the deepest in the world. Typically bases build up until around March when the thaw starts to set in and last year no resort reached a 6m base, nearing m before the end of January is very unusual.

Of course Mammoth is just one area ad almost all Western North American ski areas continue to see good snowfalls. Things did slow in Canada for a week but its dumping again on resorts like Revelstoke and Whistler once more now. There’s also been lots more fresh powder in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Montana…
The East Coast continues to report fairly good conditions too with some fresh snow and healthy base depths (50cm to 2m) from Massachusetts and New Hampshire to Quebec.
