Whakapapa and Turoa ski areas came under joint management in 2000 and now operatre as Mount Ruapehu ski area, the largest ski centre in New Zealand and one of the three largest in the Southern Hemisphere. The reasort claims the title of the largest vertical drop of any centre in Australasia.
