Rail To Resort Upgrades

There’s good news for fans of rail travel to ski resorts on both sides of the Atlantic with news that a revival of Colorado’s ski train is looking increasingly likely and that Eurostar have put new ski routes on sale for the coming winter.

The Colorado ski train from Denver to the ski resort of Winter Park was THE way to go skiing for decades until its demise about ten years ago.  However a commemorative revival of the service for just a few days last winter proved so popular that there are now plans to re-launch the service, probably  for winter 2016-16 but possibly as soon as next winter.

In a new development on the service, a new rail connection between Denver International Airport and Denver city could be incorporated in the revised service, meaning skiers flying in could board the train in the airport and get straight to the slopes without needing to get to the central station.

Meanwhile in Europe Eurostar are offering a better choice of ski resorts by rail from London than ever before.

Services from St Pancras now include the traditional main route to resorts in the French Alps including La Plagne and les arcs as well as the 3 Valleys, plus the more recently added services to Geneva linking to many resorts in Western Switzerland and new this year a fast 4.5 hour service to Lyon from St Pancras, putting skiers close to a number of other French resorts including Alpe d’Huez and Les 2 Alpes.
