A new ski pass set to launch this winter will be one of the world’s largest in terms of pistes covered, …and most expensive.

The ‘Alpine Legends’ pass will include all the skiing of Les 3 Vallées with 600 kilometres of runs, Paradiski (La Plagne and Les Arcs) with 425 kilometres of runs and Espace Killy (Tignes-Val d’Isère)  with 300 kilometres of runs – all together totalling 1,325 kilometres of piste.

It is not the first time that a giant multi-area pass has been issued in France, previous incarnations have included the Savoie Olympic Pass following the Albertville games.

The pass will cost from €340 for a six day adult pass, believed to be the first European pass outside Switzerland to cost more than €300 (or equivalent).  The pass is around 10% higher than the ticket cost for the individual regions.

The most expensive lift pass in Europe is currently the International Ticket covering all the skiing of Zermatt and Italy’s Aosta Valley which cover 880km of piste and costs 463 Swiss Francs (£303) when purchased on the Swiss side for a six day adult pass (it is significantly cheaper if bought in Italy).   The ‘Alpine Legends’ pass currently costs around £241 thanks to the strength of the pound against the euro but a few years ago would have cost more than the Zermatt/Aosta pass.

The largest ski areas on one ticket is the Salzburg Super Ski Card in Austria which covers more than 2,500km of piste at more than 20 ski regions containing around 90 villages.  It costs 238 Euros for an adult six day pass in low season, 256 Euros in peak season.
