Mammoth Mountain to Continue Season in to August

Mammoth Mountain has announced its 2016-17 ski season will extend to at least 9 months – in to August, and it hasn’t yet decided on a closing date.

The Californian resort had already announced back in January, the snowiest month in its history, that it would be open to at least July 4th, but has now extended the season deadline.

Skiers who buy season passed now for winter 17-18 can ski free this spring and summer, as can children aged under 12, regardless.

Another Californian ski area Squaw Valley, to the north of Mammoth, which is now under the same ownership following a multi-billion US dollar, multi-resort purchase in April by investors including Aspen ski resort, had already announced plans to stay open all through 2017, up to the start of next winter, conditions permitting.

Mammoth claims to have the largest skiable area of the half dozen ski areas still open in the US, and still has snow lying more than 20 feet deep on upper runs, having had the deepest snow base of ski resorts in the world all winter at nearly 30 feet/9 metres.  It still has top-to-bottom skiing possible.

It’s the first time that Mammoth has stayed open in to August since the summer of 1995.
