Livigno, which had been scheduled to open for the season this weekend, has announced it will delay doing so for a week because a new lift needs to be approved by the Italian transport ministry, and that won’t happen until next week.

The resort has purchased 53 new cabins in order to increase the capacity of the new Carosello 3000 gondola in San Rocco.

“The aim is to significantly reduce the waiting time at the stations and give you more time to spend on the snow. This operation requires a new ministerial test of the cableway, in order to guarantee the safety of the lift,” a Livigno spokesperson explained, adding, “The test is forecast for the next week, for this reason we unfortunately have to delay the opening of our ski area to the next weekend.”

The Sitas Ski Area – Livigno and Mottolino Fun Mountain will be open as normal however.
