Go Lux In The French Alps (It’s Not As Much As You Might Think)

The past decade has seen a real transformation in the quality of accommodation that we can afford on our ski holidays. The good news is that while the quality has increased dramatically, the cost has not.

The result is that while you can still, if you want, find a fairly basic, bargain apartment in the French Alps more cheaply than staying pretty well anywhere else, for just a little bit more you can now get a spacious, modern, luxury self-catered apartment, in a complex that will also have lots of amenities you’d never have got on-site before. A swimming pool, or indeed a full spa, for example.

This new generation of high-quality accommodation shares the key benefits of those early apartments – slopeside locations, for example, and all the amenities to make getting on the slopes as quick and easy as possible. They’re just far more comfortable and are an ideal base too if someone in your party doesn’t want to be on the slopes all day and fancies taking time out for some other activities.

4★ CGH Résidence & Spa Le Chalet des Dolines in Montgenèvre.

CGH Résidences & Spas, as featured by Peak Retreats, has mastered the art of beautiful accommodation in great French resorts like Sainte Foy, Montgenèvre or Les Houches, giving you the option of heading to the pool or enjoying a sauna, steam room visit or dip in the hot tub when you come in off the slopes too.

They’re also a great fit for families, providing plenty of space to relax together and enjoy your holiday on your own timetable. The self-catering option means you can all eat breakfast in your pyjamas before heading off to the slopes, taking snacks or picnics along if you wish. Then in the afternoon as the lifts close, decide whether to have a quick swim then a simple dinner in when you’re back, or get a pizza delivery or perhaps head out to eat. Most residences also have their own comfy lounges to stretch out and socialise in, often with a welcoming open fire.

Sainte Foy, located between giant ski areas like La Plagne/Les Arcs and Val d’Isère/Tignes, has developed a unique offer combining a great intimate, uncrowded ski area for beginners and intermediate with some fantastic off-piste powder for the pros.
The 4★ CGH Résidence & Spa Le Ruitor has stunning views and great facilities including an indoor heated pool, saunas, steam room and fitness room and an Ô des Cîmes spa.

Located in one of the world’s biggest ski regions, the Milky Way, with 400km of ski runs, Montgenèvre gives skiers the chance to cross over the border into Italy following the same route Hannibal did, only on skis or board, not elephants. There’s a 1.4km mountain coaster providing more fun for all the family.

The 4★ CGH Résidence & Spa Le Chalet des Dolines at the foot of the slopes has an indoor pool, hot tub, saunas and steam room, as well as a fitness room and an Ô des Cîmes spa. The snow kindergarten and ESF ski school meeting points for children are next door.
