What does a safari make you think of? An adventure into the wilderness to experience the “big five” from up close and taking pictures of wild animals?
Well, in the ski resort of Galtür in the Austrian Tirol things are a bit different. The local safari is on skis through the Silvretta mountains. Experience nature from up close during this very special adventure and go on a ski safari using a combination of skiing, snowcats (not a wild animal), cable cars and buses.
Embark on this one-of-a-kind adventure and discover the most beautiful spots of Galtür. As soon as you have strapped on the skis, a snowcat pulls you up to Zeinisjoch and towards Kops reservoir at 1,800m above sea level. A varied descent leads through a forest and up to Partenen in Vorarlberg’s Montafon region. From there, jump on the Vermuntbahn cable car up to 1,739m above sea level to experience one of the safari’s highlights, the tunnel taxi taking you through an impressive mountain shaft up to Bielerhöhe. On reaching the summit, it’s time to savour the breathtaking views of the 3,000m summits of the Silvretta range before heading down through the Vermunt valley and back to Galtür. A seven night stay for a family of four, at the 4* Alpenhotel in Galtür, arriving 20 December 2021, on a half-board basis, is priced from £725 pp (save £280 pp) – £2,900 (save £1,120).
