Britain’s Dave Ryding has taken 4th place in the World Cup Slalom race at Madonna di Campiglio in Italy.
The fourth place was particularly impressive as Ryding was in 27th place after the first run, 1.66 seconds behind leader Marcel Hirscher.

It was Ryding’s second best ever result following his second place in the Kitzbuhel Slalom in January last year, which was the best British result in Alpine racing in three decades.
However errors by Hirscher and other leaders allowed Switzerland’s Daniel Yule to take his first solo World Cup win.
Two Austrians Marco Schwarz and Michael Matt took second and third with Ryding 0.65 of a second behind.
Ryding now lies 8th in the 2018-19 Slalom World Cup standings.
