If you’re fed up with poor service and unexpected extras costs when you book a flight (or, in this day and age, you sadly probably did expect them, you just didn’t guess how bad they’d be), it might be time to consider an airline upgrade.
SWISS, who offer flights to Geneva and Zurich to quickly access all leading swiss ski resorts from five UK airports, look at the whole idea of selling flights to skiers differently.
Rather than try to get you to book with a low headline rate before charging extra for everything from your skis to your seat, the SWISS approach is to think about providing as high quality service and, most importantly, stress-free experience, for one inclusive cost, right from the start.
“Getting to a ski holiday needn’t be an uphill battle,” A SWISS statement states, outlining the company’s philosophy, “Think of the flight as a really comfortable ski lift, with drinks, food and friendly service included.”
Among the ways in which SWISS differ, for the better, to most other carriers, are free carriage of one set of skis or snowboard per passenger (including poles, boots and helmet) for all (except those travelling on Economy Light fares) and a generous 23kg baggage allowance which gives you that extra capacity to carry all the ski gear you need without facing excess baggage supplements. Travel in business and you can take two cases up to 32kg.
The even better news is that this winter there’s an even bigger choice of routes where you can fly with SWISS, with flights to the Swiss Alps from London City, Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester airports with flights convenient times to get you to the slopes in good time.
In fact SWISS now operates 180 weekly flights from the five UK airports to Zurich and Geneva – ideal for easy access to most top Swiss resorts including Crans Montana, Davos, Verbier, St Moritz, Gstaad, Zermatt, Saas Fee and many more.
Two of these routes, Gatwick to Zurich on Saturdays, Gatwick to Geneva five times weekly are new this ski season.
Once you’re in Switzerland many resorts can be famously efficient Swiss rail from the airport to the resort if you wish, with the railway station actually in the airport.
As a final luxury that can be standard for skiers and boarders the popular Fly Rail Baggage service means that once you check in your bags at departures in the UK, your skis and suitcase can travel to your ski resort destination bus or rail station, sometimes even direct to your hotel, without you. Simply sign up for the service when you book. Talk about stress free travel!
