The ski lifts will be running again tomorrow on the Italian side of the Swiss border that divides Zermatt’s year round ski area and the seasonal slopes of Cervinia.
The lifts re-opened on Saturday 30th June for a 10 week summer ski and board season through to 9th September.
There’s not only skiing and boarding on the glacier of Plateau Rosà with the new cable car, but also to enjoy the unique panorama from the viewing platform at the arrival station of the Plateau Rosà cable car which is now home to a museum “A Mountain of Work,” billed as the highest in the Europe and the resort says, “Really worth the visit.”
For skiers the lifts from Breuil-Cervinia will run from 7.15 to make the most of good morning snow conditions with the snow usually to stodgy by lunchtime and the ski area closing by 1.30pm. The last descent from Plateau Rosà is at 15.45. Skiers staying on the Swiss side heading back to Zermatt need to leave Cervinia by noon.
Access is made via the new Plateau Rosà cable car which offers better comfort and better views than the old lift. The new cable car which opened last winter has a futuristic design with maxi windows ensuring spectacular views during the ascent.
A one day adult lift pass is 31 Euros, six days 98 Euros – around half the winter price.
