Austrian ski centres tend to be among the first of the big name resorts to close for the season and around half of the country’s centres will close after the next three weekends, with most of the rest calling it a day by the 23rd.

There’s been no fresh snow to report here for over a week now and with a thaw set in during the daytime on many Austrian slopes the snow cover is quickly diminishing and around 20% of resorts no longer have any cover at resort level, with many that do still have snow only reporting 5-30cm of it.

Seefeld and St Johann in Tirol seem to be among the resorts calling it a day first on winter 16-17.

There are notable exceptions though, St Anton has a 50-265cm base for example which should see it through to the end of the Arlberg’s season at the start of May with no problem.

The country’s eight glacier ski areas, several of which stay open to June, are aso reporting impressive depths of up to 3.2m on upper runs.
