After a dry and sunny week over Christmas the snow in back falling on the French mountains and the current falls are some of the biggest yet.

Both the French Alps and Pyrenees are getting dumped on and the snow is expected to keep falling through the weekend in to January.

In the 24 hours from 27-28 December alone the snowfall totals were up to a metre (at Alpe d’Huez, above) and up to 80cm in the Pyrenees.  This video shows how that looks:

Ouverture secteurs Village et Vignole, pour le moment. 50-70 cm de plus de neige fraîche. Route ouverte. Pour la Vignole, prévoir les équipements spéciaux.

So deep snow conditions across French mountains for the start of 2018 as one of the snowiest starts to a ski season for decades continues.

Needless to say the avalanche danger is very high and its imperative to abide by warnings issued by the resorts.

Flaine has the deepest base in France at present at 130-260cm.
