How To Save £6,200 On A Family Ski Holiday

Families planning their first ski holiday could save more than £6,000 by making a few savvy choices, according to new research from ski travel specialist Iglu Ski.

With value for money emerging as the top priority for British skiers, Iglu’s 2024/25 annual survey reveals that 59% of customers rank it as the key factor when choosing a resort. It’s even more influential when selecting a tour operator (68%) and plays a major role in accommodation decisions (24%).

For families, the stakes are even higher. While many parents are eager to introduce their children to the magic of the mountains, the cost of lift passes, travel, and accommodation can quickly add up.

But Iglu Ski insists that saving money doesn’t have to mean sacrificing quality. By analysing thousands of bookings and customer preferences, Iglu Ski has identified eight simple ways families can cut costs without compromising the experience:

Tip Average Saving per Person
Share a large chalet £175
Ski over Easter £580
Choose all-inclusive over half-board £500
Stay on the edge of a ski area £461
Drive instead of fly £400
Pick resorts where kids ski free £222 per child
Opt for beginner lift passes £195
Use family lift pass deals £32

To illustrate the impact of these savings, Iglu Ski compared two sample itineraries for a family of four heading to the Portes du Soleil in spring 2026.

They found costs could be more that halved by staying in a catered chalet in Les Gets, driving to the Alps, skiing during the Easter holidays, and selecting beginner lift passes for the children for a total cost of around £5,000.

That compares to £11,200 for a February half-term hotel stay in Morzine with flights, full-area lift passes for all, so a saving of £6,200.

Phil Wright, Iglu’s Head of Sales and Service, who regularly skis with his daughter, recommends Easter as the ideal time for families to hit the slopes.

“Easter is a great time to ski as a young family, particularly when it falls over the last week of March and the first week of April,” says Wright. “It’s the cheapest of the peak dates, the air temperature is a bit warmer so no biting cold, and resorts tend to get lots of fresh snow around this time, too.”
