This winter, the snowsure Austrian resort of Obertauern in Salzburgerland is striking a nostalgic chord as it wraps up celebrations marking 60 years since The Beatles filmed scenes for their 1965 cult classic Help! in the snow-covered mountains above town.

To honour the milestone, Obertauern will host two celebratory concerts, the first on 28 November in the heart of the village, and the second on 5 December, staged directly on the slopes. Tickets start from €69 per person, with both events promising a lively blend of music, mountain spirit, and a touch of Fab Four flair.

Back in March 1965, Obertauern played host to the world’s most famous band, who arrived to shoot the film’s iconic ski scenes. While the Beatles weren’t known for their alpine prowess, they gamely donned skis and took to the slopes — with George Harrison reportedly the most confident skier of the group. The resort’s snow-sure altitude and cinematic backdrops made it the perfect stand-in for the fictional “Temple of Kaili” in the film’s plot.

Over the decades, Obertauern has embraced its Beatles connection with pride. A commemorative plaque marks the band’s visit, and local lore still buzzes with stories of impromptu jam sessions and après-ski antics. The resort even hosted a Beatles tribute ski race in past years, complete with mop-top helmets and retro costumes.
