Livigno ski area in Italy is currently installing two consecutive gondola lifts, with a combined total length of 3km and a vertical rise of 900 metres separated by three completely new stations.
The new Doppelmayr lifts are being built during Livigno’s relatively short and unpredictable summer – the village is usually open for snowsports from November to May.
The construction of the new Carosello 3000 gondola (San Rocco area), started just after the closing of the last winter season and is due to be completed in time for the start of the winter 17-18 season next month.

All 29 pylons have now been erected and the current focus is reported to be on electrical components, rope installation and on-rope installation of the lift’s 10-passenger cabins.
Stefano Cusini, General Manager of Carosello 3000, is fairly optimistic about the completion of the work,
“In September, we have made great strides, and all our working teams have done their best to stick to the schedules that we set. Now there is a perception that many things are about to be completed, but we are working on a tight time frame. We cannot yet be sure that the new gondola will be ready for the beginning of the winter season because it will depend very much on the weather conditions during the next two months. There is, however, great optimism among us,” he said.
