Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field offers some of the most spectacular views in the Hakuba Valley’s larger ski areas and is located right next door to another of the bigger centres, Happo-one. However, whilst Happo-one targets expert skiers, Iwatake is a Mecca for intermediate-level skiers with half of its 13 runs rated intermediate and descents of up to 3.3km (2 miles) to enjoy.
Skiers here can also enjoy some of the Hakuba Valley’s most beautiful views on a clear day with access provided by the new Iwatake gondola which features spacious cabins that can accommodate up to 10 passengers as well as ample space for gear. It also offers faster travel times to the summit, allowing visitors to spend more time enjoying the slopes.
It does though also have plenty to appeal to advanced skiers even though only 20% of its terrain is rated expert. That’s partly because, on a powder day, Iwatake is one of the more sheltered destinations and the quieter option with great tree skiing to enjoy. It also boasts the excellent Iwatake Snow Park.
Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field is also a good choice for non-skiers or those looking for other activities besides downhill skiing. The wonderful Yoo-Hoo! Swing is here and you can also try snowshoeing in the silent forest. The Iwatake White Park in the peaceful Iwatake Forest is a lovely place to relax and play in the snow and features igloos to explore as well as the wonderful The City Bakery.
