This is our Elan Amphibio 84 XTI 2019 Ski Review from the SIGB Ski Test in Galtür, Austria. We tested both the Amphibio 84 Ti and the 84 XTi in order to get the full rundown on the similarities and the differences between the two.

Don’t let the 84mm width fool you – these are skis that perform on piste but are also more than happy to tackle more varied terrain. The Elan Amphibio 84  transfers easily between terrains, so much so that you barely feel a change. These are skis that really harnesses and gives back all the energy stored within it, allowing you to really charge hard if you desire, while also providing a lovely cruisey ride for those relaxed runs later in the day.

In terms of technical features, Elan’s unique 4D profile means that with the Amphibio you have a dedicated left and right ski. Elan have chosen to do this so that they can use the shape of the ski to enhance your skiing and we have to admit, we were somewhat sceptical as to whether this would truly work. However, we absolutely loved it.

The cambered profile on the inside edge means that you have contact with the snow from tip to tail, giving you exceptional edge grip and really good control through the turns. On the outer edge, you have a rockered profile for easy, smooth turn initiation, really allowing you to enjoy and develop your turns.

In terms of the third and fourth dimensions, the front and back sections of the ski, here there is distinction as well. At the front end of the ski, the material is shaped in a convex way. This dampens the ski, giving it 30% less vibration and keeping you much more stable as well allowing for a more precise entry into the turns. Meanwhile, the back end has a concave shape, which will give you a dynamic exit to the turn as and when you demand.

The Elan Amphibio 84 XTi 2019 is the bigger brother of the 84 Ti. While it still has the Titanium throughout, the XTi also boasts added carbon, to really give it that extra ‘oomph’ that strong skiers will love. It’s a responsive and lively ski, but still forgiving so that you can really go for it when it comes to your turns. If you’re a hard charging skier who wants to really power down the mountain, consider the XTi over the Ti.

The Elan Amphibio 84 Xti is a fantastic choice for advanced to expert skiers who can really make the most of this ski and enjoy the incredible ride it has to offer.
