Rugged GPS Watch With Big-Mountain Ambitions
The Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro is pitched as a “do-everything” outdoor watch for people who want Garmin-style features without Garmin-level prices. With a titanium bezel, sapphire glass, dual-band GPS, offline maps and a huge battery, it’s aimed squarely at endurance athletes, mountain sports fans and anyone who lives in their watch as much as their phone.

Fit & Feel
This is not a subtle watch. The 48mm version in particular is chunky and aggressive – very much in the G-Shock mould. Reviewers note it takes a few days to get used to the size, even if you’re used to large outdoor watches.
The titanium bezel and sapphire glass help it feel more premium than earlier T-Rex models, and the Pro looks slightly more refined than the standard T-Rex 3. The new 44mm option makes it more wearable on slimmer wrists without losing the rugged look. Straps are standard quick-release (22mm on 48mm, 20mm on 44mm) so swapping to your favourite band is easy.
If you’re after a slim, under-shirt cuff office piece, this isn’t it. If you like a purposeful, “built for abuse” aesthetic, you’ll be happy.
Screen & Everyday Use
The AMOLED display is one of the highlights: sharp, bright and genuinely readable in strong sunlight thanks to up to 3,000-nit peak brightness. Always-on watch faces look good, and animations are smooth.
Zepp OS 5 is Amazfit’s own platform rather than Wear OS. You don’t get the Google Play Store or rich, interactive notifications, but the trade-off is efficiency and battery. Day-to-day navigation is fairly intuitive – swipes for widgets, notifications and quick settings – though several reviewers mention that the Zepp app and watch customisation can feel busy and occasionally confusing.
Bluetooth calling, offline music options and the built-in LED flashlight are genuinely useful day to day – the torch in particular is great for hut trips, dark car parks and late-night dog walks.
Sports, GPS & Outdoor Features
This is where the T-Rex 3 Pro earns its “Pro” badge:
-
Dual-band GPS for better accuracy in cities and steep valleys
-
Offline base maps with contour lines and ski resort mapping
-
Turn-by-turn navigation plus POI search, round-trip routing and auto rerouting if you drift off course
-
HYROX, strength & structured training support, plus third-party tie-ins like TrainingPeaks, Stryd and Wild.AI via Zepp OS 5 apps
-
180+ sports modes, covering everything from trail running and ski touring to pool sessions and gym work
GPS lock is quick (often 3–8 seconds in tests) and route tracking is generally solid, though some reviewers still put Garmin a notch ahead for outright navigation polish and data depth.
Heart rate performance is decent and lines up fairly well with chest straps for steady efforts, but like most wrist sensors it can lag slightly on sharp intervals or very bouncy runs. Serious athletes may still want to pair a strap for key workouts.
The 10 ATM rating plus diving certification to 45m and specific freedive profiles will appeal if you split time between mountains and water.
Battery Life
Battery life is one of the main selling points:
-
48mm: up to ~25 days typical use, 10 days heavy use, ~37–38 hrs precision GPS, up to ~82 hrs GPS saver
-
44mm: slightly shorter but still strong (up to ~19 days typical, ~29 hrs precision GPS)
Independent reviews consistently hit at least 10 days with always-on display, 24/7 tracking and a few GPS workouts, which is impressive.
Charging is via a magnetic puck and isn’t ultra-fast, but because you’re not living on the charger every night it’s rarely an issue.
How It Compares
Amazfit is very obviously aiming at watches like Garmin Fenix/Epix: titanium, sapphire, offline maps, big battery, rugged design. Those rivals routinely sit around the £800–£1,000 mark, whereas the T-Rex 3 Pro lands nearer £400 and is often discounted – roughly half the outlay for a broadly similar spec sheet.
You don’t get Garmin’s ecosystem depth, ultra-refined maps or platform maturity, but in terms of hardware and headline features the value is strong.

InTheSnow Verdict
The Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro is a serious bit of kit for the money. You’re getting titanium, sapphire, long-life battery, dual-band GPS, offline maps (including ski), strong water resistance and a deep set of sports features at roughly half the price of some of the big-name mountain watches.
It’s not perfect: the software still lacks the polish and ecosystem of Garmin, the watch is unapologetically chunky, and the Zepp app can feel busy. If you live for third-party apps and Google’s ecosystem, the lack of Wear OS will also be a deal-breaker.
But if what you want is a tough outdoor watch that’ll happily handle ski tours, trail runs, HYROX sessions and multi-day trips without living on a charger – and you’re willing to put up with a slightly clunky app experience – the T-Rex 3 Pro is one of the best value rugged smartwatches out there right now.
