Fresh February Snow in the Alps

Patrick Thorne

01 Feb 17

Snow has been falling again the Alps over the past 36 hours.

The snowfall – in some cases the first for 3 weeks – is not generally heavy, but is refreshing slope cover with many areas reporting 5-10cm of fresh cover overnight.

Some resorts – including Arosa, Davos, St Anton and St Moritz have reported 20-30cm in the last 24 hours.

The snow is expected to continue falling at a similar rate over the next few days.  Longer range forecasts predict up to 2-3 feet of new snow by this time next week, but longer term forecasts are not always reliable.

Snow is expected in areas that have not had much this winter including the South Eastern Alps and the Dolomites.  However the south western Alps may get the most.
